Empowering Optometrists: Laser Vision Hosts CPD Evening on Dry Eye Disease in Hampshire

Last week, Laser Vision proudly hosted a highly engaging and educational CPD event in Hampshire, bringing together optometrists from across the region to deepen their knowledge of Dry Eye Disease (DED) and its modern treatment pathways.

A Focus on Evidence-Based Innovation

The evening was led by Consultant Ophthalmologists Rakesh Jayaswal and Mike Tappin, who shared their clinical expertise and the latest research insights into this prevalent but often under-treated condition. Dry Eye Disease affects millions globally, with increasing recognition of its connection to systemic and dermatological factors—making cross-disciplinary understanding more crucial than ever.

Hands-On Technology Demonstrations

Attendees had the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies currently shaping the future of ocular surface disease management:

  • VISIA Skin Scanner: Used during the event to explore the correlation between facial skin inflammation—especially rosacea—and dry eye symptoms. Delegates learned how skin and lid conditions can offer diagnostic clues to underlying meibomian gland dysfunction.
  • OptiLight IPL: A cutting-edge Intense Pulsed Light therapy system, OptiLight is the first and only IPL device FDA-approved for treating Dry Eye Disease. Live demonstrations showcased how this non-invasive treatment can reduce inflammation, improve tear film quality, and enhance patient outcomes.
  • Meibomian Gland Expression: Attendees also observed techniques for effective expression of the meibomian glands—an essential therapeutic step in restoring gland function and alleviating evaporative dry eye.

A Warm Thanks to Our Sponsor

We were also delighted to be joined by Mark Snell of Thea Pharma, our sponsor for the evening. Mark shared insightful updates on Thea’s latest innovations for managing the symptoms of dry eye, including preservative-free formulations that support long-term ocular surface health. His contributions rounded out the evening with a valuable pharmaceutical perspective that complemented the clinical and procedural content beautifully.

Creating Collaborative Learning Spaces

Laser Vision believes in empowering eye care professionals through collaborative learning and innovation. Events like these help bridge the gap between ophthalmology and optometry, ensuring patients receive seamless and up-to-date care across all touchpoints.

We’d like to thank all attendees who joined us for this enriching evening—and extend a special thank you to Rakesh Jayaswal, Mike Tappin, and Mark Snell for their generous contributions.
