Our surgeons have close links with the manufacturers of surgical instruments, and they have an active role in developing and testing equipment for use in eye care. We constantly monitor and assess the quality and performance of the equipment to ensure that the very highest standards are offered to our patients.

Diagnostic technology.

Pentacam® HR

The Pentacam® HR is a high-resolution rotating Scheimpflug camera system for anterior segment analysis. It provides crisp images of cornea, iris and crystalline lens.

It measures the anterior and posterior corneal topography and elevation, total corneal refractive power, corneal power distribution, automatic chamber angle measurement in 360°, chamber depth and volume, HWTW, corneal and crystalline lens optical opacities.

WaveLight® Oculyzer

The WaveLight® Oculyzer™ II diagnostic device is based on the proven Pentacam HR technology, providing non-contact measurement and analysis of the complete anterior eye segment. Measurements are performed from the anterior surface of the cornea to the back of the lens.

The integrated camera takes up to 50 pictures in real-time measurement with up to 25,000 measuring points.

LENSTAR™ LS 900

Lenstar provides highly accurate laser optic measurements for every section of the eye −from the cornea to the retina− and is the first optical biometer on the market that can measure the thickness of the crystalline lens.

With its integrated Hill-RBF Method, Barrett and Olsen formula and the optional Toric Planner featuring the Barrett Toric Calculator, Lenstar provides the user with latest technology in IOL prediction for any patient.

Sirius™ Topographer

SCHWIND SIRIUS offers the perfect combined solution for refractive and therapeutic corneal surgery. The highly precise, multi-functional diagnostic device combines a rotating Scheimpflug camera with a Placido disc.

The “2 in 1” system provides a quick, three-dimensional analysis of the whole cornea and the anterior segment in only one step. With the high resolution of one micrometre, the SCHWIND SIRIUS detects the smallest of irregularities.

Zeiss IOLMaster™

The ZEISS IOLMaster® 500 is the gold standard in optical biometry with more than 100 million successful IOL power calculations to date.

The results of a meta-analysis of 28 published clinical papers covering more than 1900 cases show that the reported clinical outcomes for the ZEISS IOLMaster with regard to residual astigmatism “[…] exceed, or are at least as good as those using manual or automated keratometry.”

Visiometrics HD Analyzer™
Visiomterics HD Analyzer

Ziemer Z8

Ziemer Z8 LDV is a Swiss-made precision femtosecond laser that is widely recognised as the lowest energy and fastest repetition rate femtosecond laser available on the market today. The result is super smooth LASIK flaps with no opaque bubbling. A femtosecond laser introduces unprecedented accuracy, with needle and blade-free surgery to virtually all patients and is the most significant advancement in cataract and lens surgery in the last 25 years.

It has the potential to carry out cataract and lens extraction through a 2mm incision and is safer and superior to current cataract surgical techniques.

IntraLase™ iFS™ 150
Technology

IntraLase™ iFS™ (AMO) is another advanced technology femtosecond laser that also allows an all-laser LASIK solution. This laser is believed to be the most widely used femtosecond laser platform in the world.

WaveLight® Allegretto

These lasers have pioneered the use of wavefront technology for laser refractive surgery.  With hundreds of thousands of successful operations, they have earned a strong reputation for safety and precision. These lasers  use a scanning-spot excimer laser system with high (400Hz) pulse frequencies .

Laser spot positioning is achieved by the use of a galvanometer scanner, as well as a fast eye-tracker to register the eye position and to control the laser direction accordingly. Wavefront-Optimised or Customised corrections are delivered using topography and wavefront data, and interestingly the individual laser pulses have a small ablation diameter of just 0.95mm and a Gaussian shaped profile. This feature creates a “cool, smooth laser” along with short treatment time.

Zeiss Mel80 Excimer Laser

The Zeiss Mel 80 excimer laser is a ZEISS laser, designed to make the correction of vision defects even safer, more patient-friendly and individual. All the parameters of this ultramodern work platform are oriented towards increasing efficiency, achieving optimum treatment results and the rapid recovery of vision.

Key factors here are the very high ablation rate, the high-performance eyetracker system and individual treatment planning with the optional CRS-Master®.

SCHWIND AMARIS® 750S Excimer Laser

This Schwind laser® adopts an extremely high ablation speed of 750 Hertz in conjunction with a 5-dimensional eye tracker. It’s software enables surgeons to perform tailor made treatments based on highly detailed wavefront profiles. The selected treatment delivered by the laser is precisely calculated to optimise corneal tissue. Where a surface procedure is selected as the most appropriate treatment, this laser offers ‘no touch’ advanced surface ablation through its Trans PRK option.

This is surface treatment involving the corneal surface epithelium being removed by the laser. Where LASIK is selected, this laser is coupled with our 5th generation IntraLase™ iFS™ Advanced Femtosecond laser to achieve an all-laser LASIK solution – a versatile tool that preserves corneal innervation and allows post-operative healing by creating a biomechanically stable corneal flap.

Lens technology.

Single Vision Lens
IOL 1

These are lenses which have a single prescription over the whole lens. These styles of lenses give excellent vision at a set distance and are often suitable for patients who don’t mind wearing glasses for certain common activities.

Toric Lens
IOL Toric

These lenses are designed to correct astigmatic errors within the eye and thereby minimize dependence upon spectacles after surgery. With custom made lenses, very high astigmatic prescriptions can be corrected with excellent outcomes.

Toric lenses can be obtained in single focus, multifocal and trifocal lens styles.

Accommodating Lens

These lenses are designed to mimic the ability of the eye to accommodate prior to presbyopia by using a movable lens.  These lenses often obtain excellent distance and intermediate vision. Reading vision is dependent on several factors but it is not uncommon to require reading glasses after surgery.

The benefits of these lenses are that they avoid the potential side effects of a multifocal lens but give an extended range of vision and therefore reduce dependence upon spectacles after surgery.

IC-8™ Lens
IOL -IC-8

The IC-8 lens is a synthetic implant that replaces your eye’s natural lens and provides clear vision at virtually all distances. The lens includes a mini ring with a pinhole in the center. This advanced design helps focus the light entering the eye and once again allows you to see from near to far clearly.

This mini-ring creates a pinhole effect, which extends your natural range of vision (near to far) by funneling light through the center of the ring so that only focused light rays enter your eye.

Multifocal Lens

These lenses are designed to maximize the range of vision by providing multiple focal points at distance, intermediate and near vision. They are an excellent choice for motivated patients wishing to minimize dependence upon spectacles after surgery.

They are generally very successful, but there is a degree of compromise. Some patients will notice a degree of glare and haloes around lights, especially at night, due to light scatter. Although this is generally not too bothersome, a small minority of patients may find it troublesome. These effects often improve with time.

For patients deciding for a premium lens solution, access to LASEK after surgery is essential as approximately 5%-7% of patients may require a minor adjustment to enhance clarity of focus after surgery and obtain the best potential vision.
