Quick Access to Cataract Surgery in Surrey

When a cataract develops it causes a cloudy lens. Over time this impacts your vision, making it difficult to see clearly. You may notice your distance vision is not as sharp and eventually blurred or misty vision will persist even if you wear glasses or contact lenses.

An ophthalmic surgeon can perform a straightforward procedure to improve vision with an artificial lens. At Laser Vision, we provide rapid access to our eye specialists who can assess whether a lens implant is a suitable treatment for your condition.

When is Cataract Surgery Required?

Cataract surgery is a common procedure and most patients can return home the same day as treatment. Your journey with us will start with an initial consultation where an ophthalmic surgeon will determine if a cataract operation is suitable.

The common signs that you have cataracts and may need surgery are blurred eyesight, glare, ghosting or double vision, reduction in contrast and colour perception, a rapidly changing prescription and halos around bright lights.

Cataract Surgery Surrey: Your procedure

Laser Vision invests in the latest state-of-the-art technology to ensure safety and outstanding results for all of our patients in Surrey.

Replacing the natural lens is the only proven treatment to reverse the effect of cataracts. Traditionally this has been carried out under local anaesthetic or eye drops using ultrasound – a technique called phacoemulsification.

Femto Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery

Femtosecond laser technology, also known as Femto Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) is a more advanced technique to replace the natural lens in a minimally-invasive way.

At Laser Vision, we use Ziemer Z8 Laser technology for its proven ability to be faster and lower in energy. Treatment is performed under local anaesthetic or by using numbing eye drops so you will remain awake throughout the surgery.

Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive Lens Exchange (RFE) is a very effective solution for patients who are not suitable for laser eye surgery. For patients over the age of 45, the natural lens begins to lose its functionality.

A lens implant may be more suitable at this stage, as the longevity of laser surgery is not guaranteed since the natural lens is still changing. The procedure is usually carried out using numbing eye drops and most patients return home within a few hours.

Cataract surgery can reduce your dependency on glasses and contact lenses. It’s a life-changing procedure and we understand that you need to have full confidence in your surgeon and clinic.

On rare occasions, a general anaesthetic may be used during treatment but for most people, cataract surgery will be performed while the patient is still awake.
