Mr Panos Georgoudis

Mr Panos Georgoudis is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in cataract, corneal and refractive surgery. He is Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology and Lead for the Corneal Service at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. His specialist expertise includes cataract surgery, laser vision correction, refractive lens exchange, keratoconus management, corneal transplantation and the treatment of ocular surface disease.

After graduating from the University of Athens Medical School, Mr Georgoudis completed ophthalmology training in Surrey, Birmingham and Bristol before undertaking advanced fellowships in Cornea, Anterior Segment and Keratorefractive Surgery at the internationally renowned Corneoplastic Unit at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. He also completed a dedicated fellowship in laser refractive surgery at the Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Institute in Crete.

Known for his meticulous surgical technique and patient-centred approach, Mr Georgoudis is committed to delivering outstanding visual outcomes while ensuring every patient feels informed, reassured and confident throughout their treatment journey.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Georgoudis is actively involved in teaching, clinical governance and service development. As Clinical Lead and Corneal Service Lead, he plays a key role in shaping ophthalmic services and maintaining the highest standards of patient care within one of London’s busiest eye departments. He is also frequently invited to speak at national and international meetings, reflecting his reputation within the ophthalmic community.

His academic and professional achievements include being awarded first prize in the European Board of Ophthalmology examinations in 2010. He maintains membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the British Society of Refractive Surgery, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Hellenic Society of Intraocular Implants and Refractive Surgery.

Originally from Greece, Mr Georgoudis served as a Medical Officer in the Hellenic Navy before pursuing his ophthalmic career in the UK. Patients particularly value his calm, approachable manner and his ability to explain complex treatment options in a clear and accessible way
