Mr Liam Price is a specialist in Cornea, Cataract, Anterior Segment, Refractive Laser & Lens Surgery.
Mr Price is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cornea and cataract surgery at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. He was appointed as a Consultant in 2023 following completion of higher specialist training in the North Thames Deanery, London, including advanced corneal training at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He holds the Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He completed his graduate-entry medical degree at the University of Oxford, having previously read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, graduating with an MA.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Price holds several leadership roles within his NHS department. He is currently Cornea and Cataract Service Lead and Deputy Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology, where he has led service development initiatives including the implementation of a toric IOL pathway and projects to improve surgical efficiency. Earlier in his career, he was appointed Senior Resident at Moorfields which involved representing resident doctors at senior management forums, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to collaborative leadership and service improvement.

Mr Price is actively involved in research and education. He has published in peer-reviewed journals including Eye, Cornea, BMC Ophthalmology and AJO International, with work focusing on corneal disease, keratoconus and endothelial keratoplasty. He regularly presents at national meetings and has received recognition at national case competitions. As Co-Lead for Ophthalmology Undergraduate Teaching at Portsmouth, he supports the delivery of medical student education in partnership with King’s College London, reflecting his longstanding enthusiasm for training and mentoring the next generation of ophthalmologists.

More information about Liam Price

Liam hails from Portsmouth and attended school in the city until he left for his university and ophthalmology training. During his time at university, he was awarded a year-long scholarship organised by Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge to study at the Japan University of Economics (2009–2010), undertaking Japanese language training alongside an English teaching role. He continues to study Japanese language and culture to this day. Also in his spare time, he enjoys playing squash, piano and chess.
