Don’t take your eyes for granted! We’ve got five top tips to keep your eyes in tip-top condition.
Don’t Use Devices Too Close
Keep computer screens at least an arm’s width away and 16 inches from a handheld device, such as a tablet, mobile or iPod. The glare of an electronic screen can lead to eyestrain, as well as headaches, blurred vision, neck pain, dry or red eyes, fatigue, double vision, and difficulty refocusing.
Use The 20/20/20 Rule
We blink about 15 to 20 times a minute, but that rate drops by half when we’re viewing text on a screen. If you don’t blink enough, the cornea can dry out and feel irritated. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds, so you can blink naturally and give your eyes time to relax.
Try Eating More Seafood
The omega-3 fatty acids in fish can help to decrease your risk of eye disease, as well as helping your heart and brain health!
Eat Your Vegetables
Dark, leafy greens such as broccoli, zucchini, peas, and Brussels sprouts are full of light absorbing nutrients such as letein and zeaxanthin, which reduce the effects of glare and exposure to bright lights.
Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection can massively help to protect your eyes from harmful UV light. It’s worth investing in some proper sunglasses, don’t expect a cheap pair to necessarily protect your eyes!
